Directorial debut in Boston University’s largest auditorium, Tsai Performance Center. A three-night sold-out run of this high-energy hit. I chose Heathers as my directorial debut as I am drawn to the thematic contrasts of gritty/musicals and dark/comedies.

How interesting to stage a show with bright, cartoonish aesthetics while dealing with some of the most serious themes we can encounter as humans: suicide, sexual violence, and bullying.

What I learned through this process: it takes precision to strike the delicate balance of Heathers. I found this balance by packing a punch in the visual aesthetics of the show, while treating the implications of the text completely seriously. I have to say… it was “Big Fun!” ;)
